Government confirms hundreds of underage asylum seekers are missing
The government has confirmed hundreds of underage asylum seekers have gone missing – Swiss public radio reported more than 500 unaccompanied minors disappeared last year.
That’s a massive increase from the year before when 93 vanished.
There are about 5,000 underage refugees in Switzerland who have arrived without a parent or guardian. Most of those missing are male and they seem to flee asylum centres shortly after being processed.
A spokeswoman from the NGO Terre des hommes says the children are at risk from exploitation and it’s shocking they’re not reported as missing as other children would be.
