Swiss Air Force pilot dies in crash
A Swiss Air Force pilot has died after his plane crashed on a regular flight from Fribourg to Ticino.
The prop-driven two seater Pilatus PC 7 is a Swiss made training aircraft. The experienced pilot was simply delivering it to another airfield.
The plane took off from Payerne and was due to land at Locarno an hour later – but air traffic control lost contact while it was over the Bernese Oberland.
At a press conference in Bern yesterday afternoon, the Air Force confirmed the plane has crashed near Grindelwald and the pilot had been killed.
Poor weather conditions at the crash site mean recovery is impossible at the moment.
Locals say there was fog and snow at the time of the crash.
