No more tax on lottery winnings
Parliament has agreed lottery winners will not have to pay tax on their winnings.
The move brings the lottery into line with casinos and online gaming sites.
Not all parliamentarians agreed with the move. Some argued it was wrong earnings are taxed and gambling winnings are not and others claimed the move will cost the government CHF 100m in lost revenue.
But the Justice Minister, Simonetta Sommaruga, said she understands the arguments – but the different treatment between different types of gambling is hard to justify.
