Five Swiss universities in world top 100
Five Swiss universities are in the top 100 schools in the world. Coming in at the lower end is the University of Basel at 95th, EPFL in Lausanne is at 76, the University of Zurich at 58, the Federal polytechnic in Zurich at 19th and the University of Geneva at 60.
The top spots are dominated by the US with the UK coming in second. Harvard and Stanford are first and second, Cambridge is third, Oxford seventh and UCL 16th.
The list has been compiled by the University of Shanghai which compares 1,000 institutions worldwide.
It uses the number of Nobel prizes and other awards given to former students or current staff and the amount of publications.
