Speeder who crashed into president faces jail
A speeding driver who crashed into the president’s car last September faces up to four years in jail.
The then president, Johann Schneider-Amman, was travelling on the A16 in canton Jura when his police driver changed lane to let in another vehicle entering the autoroute.
But a car behind was going too fast to slow down and collided with the presidential limousine.
Investigations showed the driver had hit speeds of 220kph earlier in his journey.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The driver has pleaded guilty and could face 4 years locked up. Police say the fact it was the president’s car he hit is immaterial.
