Former policeman appeals conviction for lending son his gun
A former Valais police officer is appealing his conviction for a firearms offence.
51 year old Jean-Marie Bornet lent his service weapon, a Sig Sauer P226, to his son for a shooting competition.
But his son was not in possession of the relevant permit to have the gun. The cantonal prosecutor decided as the father was a police officer, it couldn’t be ignored.
The case came to light as the son brandished the gun during an argument with his girlfriend.
Bornet was fined CHF 800 for lending the gun – but he also lost his job as spokesman for the Valais cantonal police.
