Asian visitors lift Swiss hotel stays
Visitors from Asia lifted the Swiss hotel sector in the first half of this year, according to new numbers from the Federal Statistics Office.
Also adding to the generally more upbeat numbers were the amount of domestic tourists. Swiss people visiting other areas of the country were up 4%
The tourist sector has been suffering for the past couple of years due to the strength of the franc – and the number of visitors from Eurozone countries remain depressed.
But an uplift by tourists from India, China, South Korea and Japan helped fill the shortfall.
India alone accounted for 81,000 overnight stays in the first 6 months of the year.
There’s hope a recent devaluation of the Franc against the Euro will bring in more European visitors in the second half of the year.
