Switzerland strengthens travel advice for Turkey
The Swiss foreign ministry has tightened its travel advice for Turkey. It’s advising travelers they could face bans on leaving the country as well as imprisonment without a court hearing.
Turkey has been under a state of emergency since the failed coup a year ago.
The ministry is also warning people not to make negative comments about Turkey on social media if in the country or planning to travel there soon – also tourists are warned to stay away from demonstrations.
The Swiss government points out it cannot offer consular assistance to any Swiss citizen if they also hold a Turkish passport. In the case of dual nationals – Turkey disregards any other passport.
