Volunteer firefighter accused of arson maintains his innocence
A volunteer fire fighter who’s currently being detained on suspicion of starting a series of fires which killed 24 horses and ponies in Avenches in canton Vaud is maintaining his innocence.
The 27 year old is accused of arson when a blaze destroyed stables on July 15th, he’s been detained since Friday.
His lawyer says the man loves horses and joined the fire service as he wants to be of service and the charges are having a devastating effect on him.
A court has approved a month long pretrial detention period. But his lawyer says there is no physical evidence supporting the police case.
