Move to ban pesticides in Switzerland
Pesticides may be banned in Switzerland.
A group have launched an initiative to stop the use of synthetic pesticides across the country.
Many politicians and agricultural workers are concerned about the idea. Jacques Bourgeois, director of the Swiss Farmers Association and an MP, says that the act: “would weaken the country’s food security”
While the farmers may be opposed, Etienne Kuhn who’s behind the campaign, says they have “eight million citizens and consumers” on their side and “there’s a general feeling of discontentment surrounding pesticides.”
If 100,000 signatures are gathered by the end of September 2018, then the initiative will go to a vote.
