Fire at nuclear power plant near Geneva
Emergency services were alerted after a fire broke out at a French nuclear power station just 70 km from Geneva.
The Bugey power plant is a pressurized water reactor – but it has been shut down since August last year for maintenance.
The French power company EDF says a part of the roof caught fire while workers were repairing it using a blow torch.
The French nuclear safety inspectorate were immediately informed and radiation sensors around the region are being regularly checked. So far there is no sign of any radioactive leak.
