US threatens UN Human Rights Council
The 35th session of the Human Rights Council has opened in Geneva – with the United States issuing an opening warning shot on the future of the organisation.
The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, says the council must stop its fixation on Israel.
While not out rightly threatening to withdraw from the council, Haley says the US is reviewing its participation.
She says the council should broaden its scope and look at alleged violations in other countries, such as Syria, Congo, Belarus and Venezuela.
