Another effort to upgrade Swiss fighter fleet
The Swiss government is going to try again in its efforts to upgrade the Swiss army’s fighter jet fleet.
The government was embarrassed in 2014 when voters rejected a plan to buy 22 Swedish Gripen jets to replace the current fleet of FA18s.
This time the defence minister Guy Parmelin is suggesting the money comes out of the existing defence budget – which means a referendum will be unnecessary.
A group of experts will give the government a series of options which may include building a stronger ground to air defence system.
