Geneva police grateful for incident free football match
Geneva police are breathing a sigh of relief after the final of the Swiss football championship went off without a hitch yesterday.
Thousands of fans from Basel and Valais converged on the city to watch the two giants of Swiss football in the final game of the season at the Stade de Genève – in the end, FC Basel beat Sion 3-0.
Police kept the 2 groups of fans separate on their trip from the train station to the stadium using more than 200 specially laid on buses.
Many shops in the train station decided to close yesterday afternoon while the supporters passed through.
Police were prepared for the worse with riot squads, water cannon and helicopters on standby. Fortunately, they weren’t needed.
