Ticino hopes to extradite German driver

National News // May 3, 2017

Authorities in canton Ticino are preparing the documents to bring a German driver back to Switzerland to face justice after speeding through the Gotthard tunnel.

Max Pixel Ticino hopes to extradite German driver

Back in July 2014 the German national raced through the tunnel in his BMW Z4 at 200 kph – on other sections of Autoroute he hit highs of 270.

A Swiss court jailed the driver for 30 months – but he had already returned to Germany.

Ticino, working with federal authorities, is now ready to send a formal request to Germany for the extradition of the driver to serve his prison sentence. In addition, the federal migration office is ready to ban the driver from Switzerland for life after he’s served his sentence.
