Speeding not enough to stop naturalization application
Being convicted of a speeding offence is not a barrier to becoming Swiss. That’s the determination of a Geneva court.
A Zimbabwean national who’s been living in Geneva since 2002 and working as an economist at the UN was caught driving at 96 kph in a 60 zone and fined CHF 750 in 2015.
Last year he started the naturalization procedure.
The population office rejected his application based on his conviction.
The man took the case to court which decided a speeding ticket was not sufficient to reject a passport application.
