Swiss field to become French
A small Swiss farmer’s field is to become French next year. The field on the border between France and Switzerland in Jussy in canton Geneva will switch nationality to compensate for loss of French territory due to the building of the CEVA train line and the change of course of a river.
The river marks the border and it was diverted to accommodate the new train line – giving Switzerland more land – so the difference had to be made up.
The field is 5,600 m2 and is privately owned. But authorities say it will make no change to the land’s value.
