A staff member of Swiss Federal Railways has been reprimanded for making an announcement demanding soldiers give up their seats for ‘paying’ passengers.

The incident happened last week on a train from Geneva to Bern.

The SBB issued a statement through Twitter saying everyone is welcome on the trains – and there is no discrimination.

A press spokesman went on to say the army is a valued customer and a long standing partner.

Swiss soldiers, when in uniform, are entitled to free transport when travelling to training and exercises.
