Swiss rail told to halt ticket office closures
The federal government has ordered Swiss Federal Railways to put on hold its plan to close hundreds of ticket offices and third party sellers.
More and more are buying tickets online or with machines.
The railway company wants to close ticket offices and the ability to buy tickets from authorized third party sellers – such as some post offices and service stations.
But passenger groups say the ticket offices are essential for some disabled people and the elderly. A petition to save ticket offices, signed by 32,000 people, was handed over to Swiss Federal Railways yesterday.
