Swiss eat three times as much meat as they should, according to survey
People in Switzerland eat too much meat and not enough milk products, according to a survey on eating habits.
The menuCH survey questioned 2,000 people and found that they ate more than three times the recommended amount of meat per week, consuming 780 grammes instead of the suggested 240 grammes.
Those surveyed also consumed four times the safe limit of sugar, salt and fats.
The survey shows that people eat too few foods that contain healthy oils, such as nuts, and consume only two portions of milk products per week instead of the recommended three.
The survey examined what people eat, how much they cook and how often, and how long they spend preparing meals each day. The findings are intended to help nutritionists put together a national plan to encourage healthy eating.
