500 people under investigation for online jihadist propaganda
Nearly 500 people have been identified by the Federal Intelligence Service, or FIS, of spreading jihadist propaganda online, according to the latest report from the federal intelligence task force, TETRA.
The report says that Switzerland is still classed as a target for militants even though the country hasn’t had any terrorist attacks. It says the most likely threat are attacks that require little logistical planning and are carried out by lone attackers or small groups.
At the end of 2016, 497 people were being monitored by the FIS for spreading online jihadist propaganda in Switzerland or for using the country as a base for such activities. However, of 70 cases being investigated by federal police, only around 60 are the subject of criminal proceedings.
Switzerland is finalizing a national plan to fight radicalisation in the country.
