Terror ruled out in Basel shooting

National News // March 10, 2017

Basel police have ruled out a terrorist attack following a shooting at a cafe on Thursday night. At a press conference the police said they are seeking two men, aged around 30 to 40 years old about 1.75 meters tall and are thought to be of eastern European origin.

The two dead men have been identified. They were a 28 and 39 year old – both Albanian.

A 24 year old Albanian who was injured in the attack is recovering in hospital.

Basel police strongly suspect the men have crossed the border into Germany near the Badischer Bahnhof – but German police are not specifically hunting the men, at the request of the Basel police. But their description has been circulated.

The reason for the attack is not clear – but the café on Erlenstrasse is known for drug use.
