Geneva festival budget slashed for 2017
The budget of this year’s Geneva Lake Festival is to be slashed. Last year the event lost CHF 3.5m and the man responsible for 2016 was sacked last week.
The cantonal audit office is also examining the figures.
The festival, formerly called the Fete de Genève, has been struggling for a while. The length was cut from 25 days to ten following pressure from local residents who complained it was too intrusive. Fairground and stall operators say the charges to attend were too high and at only 10 days long, not enough time to make a profit.
The famous fire work show is also likely to be staged on the cheap.
Last year CHF 7m was spent, this year that will be only CHF 3m.
One of the major revenue earners for the event, ticket sales for the firework show, were down last year as the Nice terrorist attack was still fresh in everyones' mind.
