Gotthard train services suffer teething problems
Train services through the new Gotthard tunnel are having teething problems with capacity and punctuality.
But many issues seem to be coming from the Italian side.
Swiss Federal Railways say trains arriving from Italy tend to be late – causing connection problems.
But it could also be said, the new services are a victim of their own success. Some services are proving so popular, passengers have been asked to wait for the next train – or have opted for the old route over the mountains.
But it is getting better. Punctuality has improved from 79.6% in December to 86.6% now. And Swiss Federal Railways says it’s advisable to book seats – especially over Easter which is also expected to be very busy.
