Pollution hits emergency levels in Geneva
Pollution levels in Geneva have hit an emergency trigger level. At 11am yesterday, pollution reached 50 micrograms per cubic meter.
The amount means there are lower speed limits in the canton. If the level stays high until the weekend – then the canton will reset the speed cameras to the new limits. The limits is now 80 kph on the autoroute bypass around the city.
The canton is encouraged though as neighboring France has higher levels of pollution at the moment.
A Geneva councilor says it shows Geneva’s anti-pollution measures are having an effect.
The problem is heightened at the moment due to lack of wind and the cold weather.
