Swiss firefighters to help Italian avalanche victims
Swiss firefighters and snow plough drivers are heading to central Italy to help in the rescue of residents at the Rigopiano hotel which was buried under hundreds of tonnes of snow following an avalanche.
Around 20 people remain missing.
But it’s not just the hotel victims who need help. Local residents remain cut off and are running out of food and water.
Teams are being sent from cantons Ticino and Graubünden with heavy equipment such as ploughs, trucks, bulldozers, generators and emergency flood lighting.
Also fire teams in Ticino are now collecting food, water and other basic goods to help locals.
