Switzerland signs up to US entry programme
The Swiss cabinet has agreed with US authorities to sign up for American Global Entry Programme. The system will allow Swiss passport holders to use automated immigration checks when travelling to the United States.
The system allows for pre-clearance for low risk travelers – but Swiss nationals have to register their participation with the Federal Police Office. That application will cost CHF 100.
The passport holder will have their name, date of birth and passport number sent to US authorities.
The system does not replace the ESTA clearance system, which is still needed.
Germany, the Netherlands and the UK are already members.
