Geneva police are asking for witnesses following a major accident on the A1 autoroute near Geneva airport on Tuesday morning.

Police say at around 8am a white van entered the turn on the autoroute just after the Bellevue exit. The limit drops to 80kph to take into account the sharp bend.

The van slipped and crashed into the barrier – throwing out the occupants. One was hit by a dark coloured car. The driver of that car is being actively sought by police.

The two occupants were seriously injured and remain in hospital.

The road was closed completely for an hour and didn’t totally reopen until the afternoon.
