Motorist fights fine for running engine
A Fribourg motorist is disputing a fine given to him by police for running his engine unnecessarily. The man says he started his car – checked his phone –and then noticed two police officers.
He says the car was running for less than a minute and his car dealer advised him to allow the car to warm slightly before driving on a cold day.
The law does state that engines should not be run for no reasons. It may be permissible to keep an engine on for heating or cooling if a child is in the car – but not simply for personal comfort.
