700 licences lost since start of Geneva works
More than 700 people have lost the right to drive since April after works on the tunnels on the A1 around Geneva brought the limit down from 100 kph to 80. Half of the drivers caught have been non-Swiss. They are still fined and can’t drive in Switzerland.
A camera on one section of the autoroute has been working overtime catching people who believe they should be able to drive faster.
The section from Meyrin to Perly is limited as the tunnels are made safer. Many people may believe they could drive faster as there are often no workers present – but the police point out most of the work is carried out overnight.
The limit will stay in place until April next year.
