Several cantonal police forces in the country have been buying more assault rifles and other automatic weapons, including machine pistols.

The forces say they are reacting following the terrorist attacks in France.

While the Conference of Cantonal Police forces are not saying how many forces have been on a weapons buying spree, the president – Stefan Blättler – says it is several.

He says it’s important the police can react quickly and forcibly.

One force that hasn’t bought any new weapons is Zurich. They say they already have enough
