Swiss vote against the closing down of Nuclear power plants.

National News // Nov. 28, 2016

Swiss voters have rejected an initiative to close nuclear power plants after 45 years of operation. But the Green party says the result shows the people are suspicious of the plants and still want to end the country’s reliance of atomic energy.

. Swiss vote against the closing down of Nuclear power plants.

54.2% said ‘No’ to the initiative which would have meant three power plants being shut down next year. But the Green party is encouraged by the result.

Regula Rytz, president of the Green Party, says the closeness of the result means people are in favor of phasing out nuclear plants in the long run.

But the energy minister, Doris Leuthard says people realize a change is not feasible one day to the next.
