Safety is to be improved on the A40 between Geneva and Chamonix following several fatal accidents caused by drivers traveling in the wrong direction on the highway.

In March, elderly man travelled for ten kilometres before being hit by an oncoming car near Archamps, killing two people and seriously injuring another.

The société Autoroutes and Tunnel du Mont-Blanc (ATMB) will install automatic gates in Annemasse and St Julien to stop cars getting onto the A40 if someone is driving in the wrong direction.
