Swiss unworried about nuclear power
Ahead of a national vote on whether to decommission old nuclear power plants – most Swiss are not worried about an accident.
A survey in yesterday’s Schweiz
am Sonntag newspaper shows 54.5% doubt Switzerland will suffer an atomic
emergency such as seen in Fukushima in Japan.
Voters will be deciding at the end of the month to close nuclear plants more than 45 years old. If approved it will mean the almost immediate end of the two plants in Benznau in Aargau and Muhleberg in Bern.
Other plants could still generate electricity for another 20 years.
Over 30% of Swiss electricity is comes from atomic power.
