Geneva residents fight to save trees
Geneva residents have been reacting to the chopping down of 34 mature trees on at Plainpalais.
Police had to intervene when one man refused to let go of a chestnut tree, and was heard shouting at the chainsaw-wielding workers.
The city authorities are cutting down trees which are ill and could fall, posing a risk to passers-by.
Last month, a 12-metre-high chestnut tree keeled over, in what could have been a fatal incident. In the event, nobody was injured.
