Neighbouring French towns expecting asylum seekers from Calais

Towns in Haute Savoie are preparing to receive the first of a quota of 150 refugees from the Calais jungle.

Families of asylum seekers will move into welcome centres in Annecy and Annemasse while their applications are processed.

The neighbouring department of Ain is also hosting 100 Calais refugees.

Last month, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez, urged local mayors to refuse to accept the refugees.
