Swiss Solar Impulse team plan to launch solar drones

The pilots of the record breaking Swiss Solar Impulse 2 - the first aircraft to fly around the world without using fuel- are now planning on launching solar drones.

At the end of July, Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard completed a 43,000km journey, with 17 stops, using just solar power in a bid to highlight the possibilities of clean technologies and renewable forms of energy.

The team now aims to develop a pilotless version of their machine which would fly at a low altitude for several months, providing benefits such as a wi-fi network in isolated areas.
