Earthquake rattles Chamonix
An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale shook the Chamonix region near the Swiss border over the weekend. According to the Swiss Seismological Service at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the earthquake was recorded at just after one o'clock on Sunday morning.
The epicentre was 11 kilometres north of Chamonix, right next to the border between France and Switzerland. No accidents or damage were reported. Earthquakes in the Chamonix area are relatively common. The last light tremor was at the beginning of April this year.
