Man dies after stolen kayak capsizes on Lake Neuchâtel
One man has died and another is injured after stealing a kayak which capsized on Lake Neuchâtel on Saturday night.
The victims were part of a group of three, aged about 25 years old, from the French department of Haut-Rhin (Alsace), who had been camping in Yvonand (VD).
Vaud police say the men were about 700 meters from the shore when they overturned.
Rescuers were alerted at around 4:30 on Sunday morning and launched a major rescue operation.
One man managed to swim to shore, a second was rescued and taken to hospital in Yverdon-les-Bains with hypothermia.
The body of the third was found late next morning. Vaud Cantonal Police are investigating how the accident happened.
