49 people drown in Swiss waters already this year

49 people have drowned in Swiss waters already this year, almost as much as the total for last year.

The Swiss Rescue Society found that more than half the victims were foreign nationals, so have launched a translated brochure; "Fun at the water's edge" for asylum seekers, migrants and tourists.

Among the victims, there were 41 men, four women and four children.

The organisation says the statistics show men take more risks than women.

Of the victims, 47 were in open water, with 24 in rivers and 23 in lakes.
