Thousands without drinking water in Ticino

Local News // Sept. 13, 2016
Thousands without drinking water in Ticino

Nearly 5,000 people in are without drinking water until Friday after petrol polluted a water distribution network in Ticino.

The civil protection unit in Locarno and Vallemaggia say they also can't use it to cook or wash food in.

They've distributed drinking water to several villages in tanks and water bottles.

Last summer a thousand residents in Le Locle in canton Neuchâtel suffered from stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting from water pollution caused by a violent storm.

At the same time, people in Valais and Ticino had their water contaminated by bacteria originating from faeces.
