33 tourists rescued after spending night trapped above French Alps
Over 100 people have been rescued after being stranded in cable cars above the high above the French Alps.
33 of the 110 tourists had to spend a very cold night suspended over a glacier as rescue services had to call a halt to the operation due to bad weather.
They spent around 16 hours at an altitude of about 3,600m, after wires linking the Aiguille de Midi peak in Chamonix (3,842 meters), to Pointe Helbronner (3,462 meters) above the town of Courmayeur in Italy, became tangled.
Katy Dartford reports from Chamonix for WRS:
Cold and tired but relieved to be down.
