Villars in shock after restaurant owner death
The ski resort of Villars-Gryon is in shock after the death of David Jewell after he was attacked by a shark in New Caledonia.
The Australian is credited for boosting the village's tourist reputation with a string of high end restaurants and cafés called Cookie.
He moved to Villars from Western Australia 12 years ago. Regular visitors to the resort called him inspirational and local politicians, including the mayor Wilfried Weiss, said he was a pillar of the community.
Jewell was kite surfing when he was bitten. He was taken back on board the boat, but an artery in his thigh had been severed and he bled to death before help could arrive.
