SBB want railway police to carry machine guns and tasers

SBB want railway police to carry machine guns and tasers

SBB want railway police to carry machine guns and tasers.

The Federal Office of Transport confirmed in the Neue Luzerner Zeitung that SBB asked them about the legal possibilities of this in 2015, but not official request was filed.

Railway police are already armed with a gun, baton and pepper spray and they can use a weapon that shoots rubber bullets.

Currently the law doesn't allow automatic weapons, assault rifles and other stun weapons like tasers to be carried on trains by police, and the FOT say there is no question of it happening.

But SBB made the request again in August, arguing that they should be allowed in cases of serious threat, as is already the case in airports.

They also carried out tests with tasers shortly after the attack in Salez.
