New Geneva public transport schedule threatened
A proposal to increase the price of bus tickets in Geneva has hit a new setback.
The Grand Council has voted to refer the decision to increase the tariffs of Geneva Public Transport back to Transport Commission.
The plans included increasing the 60-minute ticket from 3 francs to 3.20.
With this setback, the increase planned for January, along with the new schedules, may not take place.
The measures are intended to offset losses caused by lower tariffs voted in by Geneva in 2014.
Since then, any price increase must be approved by the Grand Council.
The State Council was in favour of a rate increase and warned in June that a refusal would be detrimental to the transport service.
