Man falls asleep during train knife attack
A man brandishing a knife on a local train in the Rhine Valley fell asleep as police arrested him.
The incident happened on the regional train to St. Gallen yesterday morning at Oberriet Station.
Police already knew the 42-year-old Swiss man when they went to arrest him - as he'd often been detained under the Narcotics Act.
They believe he was probably under the influence of drugs, when they found him asleep in a train compartment.
In a statement they said: "The man was passed out so that he was barely able to stand on his feet and he fell asleep several times during a police operation.”
The knife he was carrying was a small folding knife with a 3cm long blade, which does not fall under the Arms Act, so police say he presented no real risk to travellers.
