Fewer people behind bars in Switzerland
Fewer people are serving prison sentences in Switzerland, but there has been an increase in female prisoners and those with a Swiss passport.
In 2014, just under 9500 people were behind bars compared to 9,200 last year – a decrease of about 3%, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
Most of them were between 25 and 34 years old.
The number of female prisoners increased by nearly 6%, from 734 to 776.
There was also an increase of 0.5 per cent in the number of Swiss prisoners compared with foreign.
