Car theft 6 times more likely in Geneva than rest of Switzerland

Car theft 6 times more likely in Geneva than rest of Switzerland

The risk of getting your car stolen is six times higher in Geneva than the rest of Switzerland.

According to the insurer AXA the canton of Glarus has the lowest risk, at ten times below the national average.

Car thefts are not an everyday occurrence in Switzerland, but there are large regional differences.

Geneva is followed by Basel City and Vaud, where the risk of theft is two times higher than national average.

It's thought this is because thefts are more common in urban than rural areas, and because of the proximity to France as many stolen cars are immediately taken abroad.
