EPFL student develops tool to predict temperature of Lake Geneva

A PhD student at EPFL has developed a new tool to predict the temperature of Lake Geneva.

The model, which looks at the currents and temperatures more than a day in advance and can be found at meteolakes.epfl.ch, is available for a month.

Theo Baracchini, who is writing a thesis on aquatic systems at EPFL in Ecublens, told 24 heures that data from satellites and other sources is used to predict the evolution of the waters of Lake Geneva.

It's hoped the model can be applied to other lakes and could be of interest Lake supervisors, cooling systems managers or even fishermen.
