31 deaths in Swiss lakes and rivers this year
There have been 31 deaths in lakes and rivers across Switzerland already this year, with more than half of victims being tourists or asylum seekers.
The Swiss Rescuers service say the death toll is up 20% from last year when 26 deaths were recorded in mid-July, as reported in Le Matin.
Of the fatalities there were 15 in lakes, 14 rivers or streams and 2 from diving..
For the first six months of the year, 17 deaths were of tourists, refugees or asylum seekers.
Most of the victims are male and only two women and two children dying.
